Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 6, 2026

This policy says what Compass collects and why, how long we keep it, and which other companies see it.

What we collect, and why

  • Your email address, to create your account and sign you in.
  • Your plan: tasks, notes, pillars, projects and goals, and the files you add to notes on tasks made in Compass. They sync to your Compass account so each of your Macs shows the same plan. Files you add to a TickTick or Linear task are stored by TickTick or Linear, not by us.
  • Your connected apps: the sign-in tokens for TickTick, Todoist, Linear and Google Calendar, and copies of the tasks and events they send, so Compass can show them and sync your changes back. From Google Calendar we keep the details of your events, read-only (see Google user data below). Things 3 to-dos are read on your Mac and synced to your account the same way.
  • Finn, if it's on: your chats with Finn and what Finn remembers about how you plan, so it can pick up where you left off.
  • Usage analytics and crash reports: via PostHog and Sentry, we record which features you use and any crashes, linked to your account id. They never include what you write in your tasks or notes. We use them to see which features get used and to fix bugs. You can turn both off in the app, in Settings ▸ Account ▸ Privacy.
  • On this website: which pages are visited, via PostHog, and the email address you give if you sign up for updates.

We do not collect financial information or your contacts.

Finn and AI providers

Finn, the assistant in Compass, is on by default. While it's on, Compass sends the day's tasks, events and goals to Anthropic each morning to write Finn's morning Brief, and sends your Finn chats with the tasks they need. These requests go through our Anthropic account, or through your own key if you add one in Settings ▸ Finn. If you connect Codex, they go to OpenAI under your ChatGPT account instead.

Turn Finn off and none of your tasks, notes or events go to an AI provider.

Google user data

If you connect Google Calendar, Compass asks Google for two permissions: read-only access to your calendars, and your Google account's email address.

  • What we read: the list of your calendars, and the events on the calendars you choose to show: title, start and end time, location, description, video call link, your reply, and the guest list.
  • What we use it for: showing your events next to your daily plan, working out how busy each day is, and, if Finn is on, letting Finn plan your day around your meetings. The email address only labels the connected account in Settings ▸ Integrations.
  • Read-only: Compass never creates, edits or deletes calendar events.
  • Where it's kept: copies of your events and the Google sign-in token are stored in your Compass account on our servers in the EU, and on your Mac.
  • Who else sees it: when Finn is on, Anthropic (or OpenAI, if you connect Codex) receives the day's events to write Finn's answers for you, and may not use them to train models. No one else. We never sell Google user data or use it for advertising, and no person at Compass reads it unless you ask us to, for security, or when the law requires it.
  • Deleting it: disconnect Google Calendar in Settings ▸ Integrations and Compass deletes the stored events and the token. You can also remove Compass's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. If you delete your account, we remove everything within 30 days.

Compass's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine learning models.

How long we keep it

  • Your email, your plan, your connected apps and your Finn chats are kept for as long as your account is active.
  • A file you added to a note is deleted once no note has referred to it for 30 days.
  • Analytics events and crash reports are linked to your account, and we delete them with it.
  • If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your data within 30 days.

Third parties we work with

Compass uses these services:

  • Hetzner: our cloud hosting provider for the servers and the database. Your account data lives on their servers in the EU.
  • Cloudflare: the network in front of our API and this website, and storage for files and database backups. Files are kept in the EU, and backups in Europe.
  • PostHog: our analytics provider. Events are linked to your account id and used only to understand product usage.
  • Sentry: receives crash reports, with your account id and the error, so we can fix bugs.
  • Formspree: handles form submissions on our website (like email sign-ups).
  • Anthropic: writes Finn's answers while Finn is on. Through our account, Anthropic may not use your data to train its models.
  • OpenAI: writes Finn's answers only if you connect Codex, under your own ChatGPT account and OpenAI's terms for it.

Compass also exchanges data with the apps you connect (Things 3, TickTick, Todoist, Linear and Google Calendar), on your behalf and only for the accounts you connect.

What we don't do

  • Sell your data to anyone.
  • Share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Use your data to train AI models.
  • Send you marketing emails without your consent.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies. Our analytics keeps its visitor id in page memory only, so it is gone when you leave the page. The Compass app sets no cookies either. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time. Email us at support@getcompass.io and we'll take care of it promptly. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your data within 30 days.

You can also export your data yourself in Compass: Settings ▸ Account ▸ Export your data.

Children

Compass is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Compass evolves. If we make a significant change, we'll notify you by email. Your continued use of Compass after a policy update means you accept the revised terms.
